Changing of The Seasons...

Summer has been and gone again, offering its heat, long nights and swimming, boating and fun for a short but sweet period.  The flip flops, shorts and tank tops are being put away, making room for the cozy sweaters, boots and scarves.  Autumn is here!  We celebrated the equinox with a big wedding here, complete with a barn dance, pig roast and a lobster bake!!  It was great fun, and the perfect activity to welcome in the fall!  See our FB page for pictures!  As the weather changes, so does the pace here at the inn.  The maddening crowds are thinning out, our rooms are less full, but to me that is a good thing!  The guests we have in summer are on a mission to see as much of Maine as possible, and they are often in and out before I learn their names.  At this time of year, however, I really get a chance to know our guests, and interact on a personal level.  Our guests are different too, they are more interested in having a hot cup of tea, while working on a puzzle in our sitting room, reading a book snuggled in a warm blanket, or strolling down to the marsh to see the bright colors of the foliage and the stillness of the water.  They come for dinner almost every night, and we start lighting fires which always draws a crowd chatting to each other.  The guests usually get to know each other a bit more, at this time of year!  The Pumkin festival was another success this year, and the decorated pumpkins will be on display till November in Damariscotta!  Our guest often go pumpkin or apple picking, enjoying fresh cider from the presses!  The veggies in our restaurant start changing from zucchini to mashed pumkin or squash...Mmmm!!  All in all, I love this time of year and think it is the perfect time to visit Maine, and enjoy the comfort, coziness and peacefullness our inn has to offer!!
